By Russ Lawrence in Local People

A fire brought disruption to parts of Enfield this afternoon.

Clouds of thick black smoke and the sounds of ’small explosions’ were reported after a blaze broke out in Windmill Hill.

It its thought the fire was at a car repair workshop or garage.

It brought traffic to a standstill with roads in the area gridlocked.

The blaze is now thought to have been extinguished, but fire crews are still carrying out damping down operations.

The Fire Brigade confirmed they were called to a fire in Windmill Hill at 2.15pm this afternoon.

“Four fire engines are attending.” said a Fire Brigade spokeswoman.

“Two appliances have been sent from Edmonton Fire station and two from Enfield with around 20 firemen battling the blaze,” she added.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
