HARINGEY BOROUGH climbed into the Ryman League North Division’s play-off places after romping to a 5-2 victory at home to Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday.
Borough have been in sparkling form in recent weeks, producing a string of impressive performances which have seen them charge up into fifth place in the table and this latest triumph was their seventh win in a row – and tenth in 11 matches – in all competitions.
It did not take the hosts long to get into their stride in this game as Daniel Aristidou fired them into the lead after just four minutes and Scott Durojaiye doubled their advantage in the eighth minute.
However, the dramatic start to the clash continued as Great Wakering hit back almost immediately – Jake Gordon reducing their deficit by finding the net on ten minutes.
Undeterred by conceding, Borough continued to attack with purpose and restored their two-goal lead eight minutes later as Anthony McDonald continued his fine form in front of goal by getting his name on the scoresheet.
The contest somewhat settled down after this frantic start, but the hosts rammed home their advantage on the stroke of the interval as Ralston Gabriel added their fourth.
Although the second half failed to match the excitement of the opening 45 minutes, Gordon gave the visitors a glimmer of hope by pulling one back with just over 20 minutes remaining.
This goal ended up being little more than a consolation effort for Great Wakering though and Durojaiye set the seal on another terrific afternoon for the hosts by grabbing their fifth in the last minute.
